Architecture shaped through craft and digital fabrication

Mikkel Nielsen is a Copenhagen-based architect and designer. His work explores how digital fabrication reintroduces craft into contemporary building, adding function, scale and variation to otherwise standardised systems.

The studio develops projects across architecture, interiors and spatial installations alongside a series of collectible lighting and objects. Across all scales, work is conceived as coherent systems where design, production and use are closely integrated. Through technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC, the practice combines precision with controlled variation, allowing each element to perform both functionally and spatially.

The practice engages with architecture through research, installations and the development of custom components, establishing a foundation for future building projects. Work is developed in close collaboration with fabricators and interdisciplinary partners. In parallel, the studio produces limited-edition pieces that translate the same principles into objects and light.

Work has been presented at Roskilde Festival, Officinet and Designmuseum Danmark, and acquired by the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Mikkel Nielsen serves on the board of Danish Crafts & Design Association.
