Futureproofing of Faxehus Efterskole

Futureproofing of Faxehus Efterskole is a proposal for the expansion of an existing Danish efterskole located between forest and sea in Faxe Ladeplads. The project introduces two new teaching buildings carefully integrated into the sloping landscape and aligned with the historic bath hotel from 1914.

Partially embedded into the terrain, the buildings open toward the Køge Bay area while a shared terrace creates views, movement, and social spaces between them. The project combines classrooms, libraries, and gathering spaces within a simple architectural framework shaped by light, landscape, and materiality.

The facades are developed through a close dialogue between architecture and craftsmanship. Brickwork is combined with hand-worked limestone from the nearby Faxe Kalkbrud, produced in collaboration with local stonemasons. The material composition draws on regional building traditions while creating a durable and contemporary educational environment rooted in its surroundings.
